Hoist the
French sail!
To celebrate its 50th
anniversary the Alliance
Française in Dublin is
organizing a
crossing,
open to all Francophile
apprentice sailors, between
France and Ireland on the Belem,
one of the oldest tall ships
still sailing the seas. A French
merchant ship in her first
years, later on the property of
the Guinness family, this vessel
is France's only remaining three
masted barque.
Setting sail from
Roscoff,
Brittany, on the 9th of July
the Belem will be welcomed
into
Dublin Harbour four
days later on the 13th of
July just in time for the
Bastille Day celebrations!
The Belem will
then be moored for four days
beside a festive French
market, on the quayside,
giving the people of Dublin a
chance to come on board and to
participate in the celebrations.
If you want to
participate in this adventure
of a lifetime, learn sailing
and practise your French at the
same time,
book your berth online
now on the Alliance Française
website with a 30% deposit
(€268) by February 28th.
The cost of the crossing is
€828 (please note that you
have to make your own way to
Roscoff).
All participants
will be invited to take part
in a
free
workshop beforehand
at the Alliance, on sailing
terms and useful French
expressions to help you to
prepare for the voyage!
