General French for 5-13 year old

These classes give your child the opportunity to learn and interact in French through a variety of fun courses and activities.

Teach your child a second language to:
- Enrich and enhance intellectual development
- Provide a life-long advantage and head start for other language learning
- Boost scholastic performance in other subject areas
- Nurture the ability to be open-minded and sensitive to other cultures
- Foster good listening skills

Description of the course. The curriculum of the classes follow the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
Therefore, it is important to know that complete beginners should start at the level 101. Non-beginners students must be assessed before enrolling in a class.
 


Les Poussins
(5-6 years old)
Tatou Le Matou is a little cat that takes young children along in his adventures. This method takes a multi-sensory approach of the French language, aims to focus on the imagination and lead to a discovery of French fairy tales. Tatou, the only speaking cat, is one of the children’s favourite character. Songs, Arts & Crafts, Poems are only a sample of all the activities developed during those levels.
All children must start at the first level Poussins 1 as the stories of Tatou are all connected and progress up to the level Poussins 4.

Poussins 1
Material: Tatou le Matou 1 - Module 1
Communication Skills: During this class, your child will follow the first adventures of Tatou who will help them develop a knowledge of their senses: I can see, I can hear, I can feel, I can taste, I can hear…such are the different chapters of these first stories.

Poussins 2
Material: Tatou le Matou 1 - Module 2
Communication Skills: During this class, your child will follow the adventures of Tatou as he travels and meet new friends, each of them representing the 4 elements. So let’s join him and meet Edmond the Dragon, Eloi the King of Air, Irène the mermaid and Lucienne the witch.

Poussins 3
Material: Tatou le Matou 2 - Module 1
Communication Skills: During this class, your child will follow the adventures of Tatou as he learns more about human feelings such as joy, sadness, jealousy, fright and friendship.

Poussins 4
Material: Tatou le Matou 2 - Module 2
Communication Skills: During this class, your child will follow the last adventures of Tatou as he decides to give a try to Magic! He will lead your child to a world full of Magical hats, spells, potions and tricks.

Les Minimes
(7-9 years old)

Zigzag 1 is a new method for children that will take them on a trip through the French-speaking world along with Félix, the little reporter, his young friend Lila, Madame Bouba, the greedy granny, as well as Titou the wolf, Pic Pic the hedgehog and Pirouette the owl!

Material: Zigzag 1 - Unités 1,2,3
Communication Skills: At this level your child will learn how to introduce himself/herself and to give his/her age. He/she will learn colours and numbers up to 20 as well as animals of the farm and fruits and vegetables.
Projects: Masks of animals, songs and dance, book of likes and dislikes.

Minimes 102
Material: Zigzag 1 - Unités 4,5,6
Communication Skills:
At this level your child will learn vocabulary about sport, clothes, parts of the body and how to talk about his/her family.
Projects:
Games and creation of playing cards
 


Les Cadets
(10-12 years old)

Super Max 1 & 2 Max, a young londonian, arrives in Paris in Mme Lafleur’s class. His new friends, Manon, Léa, Youssou and Thomas discover a great friend! All together, they decide to participate in a contest called “Ton Super Héros”. Max learns French very quickly… But what is his secret?

Cadets 101

Material: Super Max 1 - Unités 1,2
Communication Skills: At this level your child will learn how to introduce himself/herself and to give his/her age. He/she will become familiar with the definite and indefinite articles. He/she will be able to ask and respond to questions like: “What is it? It is…” He/she will study the verb “to be” as well as numbers, colours and the French alphabet.

Cadets 102
Material: Super Max 1 - Unités 3,4
Communication Skills: At this level your child will learn how to tell where he/she lives and with whom and talk about his/her health. He/she will become familiar with vocabulary about habitat, family and animals, anatomy and clothes. He/she will study the verb “to have” in the positive and negative form. He/she will learn the possessive adjectives, the definite articles and some verbs of the first group in present tense.

Cadets 103
Material: Super Max
2 - Unités 1,2
Communication Skills: At this level your child will learn how to speak about his daily schedule, describe the place he/she lives in. He/she will learn vocabulary about school and different activities. He/she will review the time. He/she will study the imperative tense of verbs and irregular verbs such as “to take”, “to learn”, and “to understand”.

Cadets 104
Material: Super Max 2 - Unités 1,2
Communication Skills: At this level your child will learn how to write a postcard and introduce their favourite star. He/she will also learn vocabulary about the weather, the directions and holidays. He/she will study new verbs such as “to go” and “why” and be able to give a few words to describe things around them.
Super Project: A model and a brochure about my town
Cultural Aspect:  Famous streets and avenues

Le Mag 2 & 3 Four teenagers get involved in a “young journalist workshop” and create their own magazine: Le Mag’. Follow the activities of Thomas, Zoé, Rémi, Maïa and Alexej and their teacher Nico as you create your own Mag’ too!

Cadets 201
Material: Le Mag' 2 - Unités 4,5,6
Communication Skills: At this level your child will be able to speak about events that happened to him/her in the past, find clues to lead an investigation, and do some clothes shopping. He/she will use vocabulary about radio, television and the internet, pocket money. He/she will be able to read and understand news in brief, surveys about teenagers and money. He/she will also be introduced to the past tense “Passé-Composé”

Cadets 202
Material: Le Mag' 2 - Unités
7,8
Communication Skills: At this level your child will be able to speak about environment and their plans for the future. He/she will use vocabulary about weather, nature, jobs and futurist notions. He/she will be able to read and understand scientific and Sci-Fi texts. He/she will also study how to say “we have to”, “we should” and the future tense, and write about their plans and create a poster to protect nature.

Cadets 203

Communication Skills:
At this level your child will be able to describe someone, express his/her enthusiasm, introduce and describe a place or an event. He/she will use vocabulary about geography, words to articulate a story logically and to switch from one register to another according to the communicative context. He/she will be able to read and understand literary texts and write a short story. He/she will also study how use the present, recent past and near future properly and how to avoid the repetition of key words in a story.

Cadets 204
Material: Le Mag' 3 - Étapes 3,4
Communication Skills: At this level your child will be able to talk about the past and compare his/her time to his/her ancestors. He will also be able to tell the biography of a person he/she admires. He/she will use vocabulary about the different eras of History, tell if a person is involved in a social activity. He/she will be able to read and understand biographies and comic-strips. He/she will also study how to switch between the “Imparfait” and “Passé-Composé” properly.
Projects: A complete time-line of the History of your home-country / Create your special own wax museum
Cultural Aspect: The main events that made French History / Le Musée Grévin /  Les blagues à Toto

Cadets 205
Material: Le Mag' 3 - Étapes 5,6
Communication Skills: At this level your child will be able to talk about his/her projects and his/her dreams. He will also be able to organise a trip abroad and express what he/she would like to visit. He/she will use vocabulary about wishes, advice and feelings. He/she will be able to read and understand extracts of a play, poems, acrostiches and other play-on-words. He/she will also study how to use the “conditional” mode and deepen his/her knowledge of the future tense.
Projects: Let’s visit a French speaking country!
