form of a discussion, a lecture,
video screening and/or analysis

Français des Vacances |

Objective: Through oral,
listening, and cultural
activities, participants will
prepare for a holiday in France
and learn how to get by in
everyday situations. The
following workshop is designed
for students who have completed
our Beginner 1 level or new
students assessed as Beginner 2.
Material: Video and audio
tapes, booklets, authentic
documents. |

French viewpoint on the breaking
news. To discover, analyse and
comment on the latest current
affairs relating to France, the
world's politics and economy.
This course is designed to lead
to a better understanding of
France's institutions and its

Civilisation française |
|
Objective: This course
offers a study of French society
through 16 famous sociological
and historical themes in the
20th century in France : the
family and its evolution,
workers, immigration, Mai 68...
The class will take the form of
a discussion, a lecture, video
screening as well as analysis of
documents.
Material: Video and audio
tapes. Notes and documents will
be provided. |

Histoire de l'Art |
|
Objective: Participants will
improve their French through
discussions on art. The classes
will feature such different
topics as painting, architecture
and dance and will be organised
around historical themes (The
Nude, Landscape, etc.),
specific artists (Monet, Le
Corbusier…) and movements in art
(Impressionism, Surrealism…).
Material: Videos,
pictures. Visits to the National
Gallery are also included. |

Théâtre |
|
Objective: Participants will
improve their French through
discussions on theatre and
acting classes in French with a
professionnal comedian.
About the trainer: Native
of Paris, Anne Abel entered
l’Ecole du Théâtre National de
Chaillot in 1996 where she
graduated under the supervision
of Jérôme Savary. She then
entered the Laboratoire de
l’Acteur where she discovered
the world of film. She performed
in various French plays and
movies, the most famous being
Deuxième vie, directed by
Patrick Braoudé. |

|
Objective: Take part in a
journey that will lead you from
Paris to Marseilles, from Alsace
to Brittany and the Martinique
Island. Come and explore
France's very varied landscapes
and cities. Discover the
diversity of its lore through an
artistic, cultural and
historical point of view.
Material: Audio & video
documents, articles will be
provided and the workshop will
include an occasional food
tasting. |

Objective: To screen and
analyse a number of great French
films in order to understand the
main genres of this art in
France, and to get an insight
into the decisive historical and
social aspects of France, as
revealed through cinema.
Material: Films, shorts
and documentaries. |

Littérature |
|
Objective: Take a stroll
along the path of French
literature through a thematic
approach to classical and
contemporary writers.
Material: Participants
will be provided with a
collection of excerpts taken
from various literary genres
(theatre, poetry, nove, etc.). |

Traduction |
|
Objective: To expose
students to various registers of
the French language (colloquial,
journalistic, literary…) and
deal with a wide range of
translating situations.
Translations will be practised
in both directions, Thème
(from English to French) and
Version (from French to
English).
Material: Articles from
the French media, excerpts from
contemporary literature. |
